Container Gardening in the Lowcountry
Looking to add a splash of color to your patio or porch? Not sure where to begin? Consider containers. Many of South Carolina's iconic plants can be successfully grown in pots and today's garden centers have many lovely containers to choose from in all shapes and sizes.
Take for example the azalea. This shrub comes in a variety of sizes already including a dwarf suitable for small containers or go all out and choose a standard size to display in a large container. You can even prune your azaleas into a tree form. Other iconic South Carolina flowers that do well in containers include gardenias, camellias and roses. The Lowcountry Master Gardner Association even has a Rent-A-Master-Gardener program to help answer all your questions. Click here to visit their website for more information.
