After you get your license, rod and reel, here are some top fishing holes to try your luck:
Jarvis Creek is a beautiful park is centered around an 11-acre freshwater pond where you can fish from the banks or cast a reel from the fishing dock. It is stocked with bluegill and largemouth bass, but it is all for fun – Jarvis Creek has a catch-and-release program. It is a good place to teach young anglers how to fish and has park amenities for the entire family such as fitness trails, grassy fields, grills, and restrooms. Picnic pavilions are available for rent through the Island Recreation Association office.
C.C. Haigh Fishing Pier
This popular fishing dock is located on McKay Creek and the Intracoastal Waterway at Pinckney Island. Saltwater offerings include cobia, bluefish, and black bass and 16 different shark breeds. Parking is available and there is no fee to fish.
A visit to the historic Daufuskie Island is like taking a trip back in time. The island is only accessible by boat and public ferry, with launch points from Hilton Head Island and Bluffton (https://www.hiltonheadisland.org/daufuskie/getting-here). The island’s creeks and streams are available for public fishing.
This 50,000-acre reservoir has about 600 miles of shoreline. It is home to numerous state and national fishing tournaments. Dominate fish include largemouth bass and striped bass, white perch, white crappie, and white catfish. Buoys mark the location of fish attractors. Boat rental is available.
