Summertime & the Living is Easy
Life moves at a different pace in the lowcountry. Living on the water has its own rhythm, an ebb and flow like that of the tide. But that doesn’t mean there is nothing to do. If you’re not one to enjoy your day by simply relaxing on the porch or patio, Hilton Head Lakes and the surrounding region offer plenty of options to explore and enjoy life in the lowcountry.
Festivals abound, as the Lowcountry & Resort Islands Tourism Commission puts it “We have a festival to celebrate nearly everything: the endangered Gopher Tortoise, watermelons, catfish, rice, harbors and water, shrimp, chili and wine, and even more.” The Tourism website has a wonderful calendar of events for you to peruse to plan your next excursion. Interested in the festivals for June alone? The Tourism website offers a list with links to learn more about each one (click here).
Perhaps you enjoy a stroll through a Farmer’s Market. Every Thursday from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. Bluffton’s Farmer’s Market in historic Old Town Bluffton offers a wonderful array of locally grown produce to enjoy.
Craving something a little sophisticated? Why not stroll through Beaufort’s First Friday After 5 event? Each month, on the first Friday, merchants stay open until 8:00 p.m. so you can explore and support local charming downtown Beaufort shops, restaurants and art galleries while enjoying tasty refreshments and local live music.
Do you enjoy the performing arts? The Arts Center of Coastal South Carolina will be presenting Mama Mia! in June. The Center also offers various workshops and other events. Visit their website to learn more (click here). Musicals not your thing? The May River Theatre in Bluffton will be presenting Little Women July 21st through August 6th (click here for more information).
Of course there’s always fishing, sailing, the beauty of nature, and outstanding golf in Hilton Head Lakes. Or you could always relax on your porch and just take in the view.
